1971 Ford Bronco – Complete Restoration & Coyote V8 Conversion
Originally purchased on eBay from a longtime owner, this 1971 Ford Bronco had previously undergone a mild restoration while retaining its original running gear. The vehicle was eventually brought to our shop for a comprehensive restoration and modern drivetrain conversion.
The project included a fully powder-coated frame, a new Ford Gen 3 Coyote 5.0L V8 engine producing 460 horsepower, and a Ford 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission. Additional upgrades included a complete wiring harness, updated cooling system, single fuel tank conversion, and roll bar.
The Bronco’s classic styling was carefully preserved, including its striking red-orange finish, contrasting white accents, and black soft top. Inside, the body-color dashboard, traditional instrumentation, wood-rim steering wheel, and cream-colored upholstery maintain the character of the original vehicle. A modern automatic shifter integrates the upgraded drivetrain without overwhelming the vintage interior.
Two Broncos, One Owner
This 1971 Bronco is one of two classic Ford Broncos owned by Adam Gordan of Healdsburg, California. Adam commissioned our shop to completely restore and modernize both vehicles, including this 1971 model and a 1976 Bronco Ranger. Although the Broncos feature slightly different orange finishes and distinctive exterior configurations, both received essentially identical Coyote V8 drivetrain conversions and extensive mechanical upgrades. Together, the two projects required approximately two years to complete.
Throughout the restoration, we received valuable assistance from Frank at Power By The Hour, who also supplied numerous components. Additional parts were sourced from Tom’s Offroad in Medford, Oregon.
The finished Bronco combines the unmistakable styling of a first-generation Ford Bronco with the power, performance, and drivability of a modern V8 drivetrain. A rewarding project and an exceptional example of classic design meeting modern engineering.
